Robert M. Commire has pleaded no contest to a charge of felony murder in the June 5 slaying of Rita M. Sologar, 402 N. Catherine St. A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt, but is treated as such for the purpose of sentencing.

Commire, 19, is set to be sentenced at 8:30 a.m. April 21 to life in prison with no possibility of parole.

Commire told Bay County Circuit Judge Kenneth W. Schmidt on Wednesday that he has no memory of having committed the crime, even though he gave details of his actions to police when he and his cousin, Shawn M. Commire, were arrested in Salogar's garage the morning she was killed.

Commire told Schmidt that taking the Clonipin, which was not prescribed to him, was a suicide attempt. He also was recently hospitalized at Bay Regional Medical Center, where he had surgery to remove an ink pen he had swallowed, also an apparent suicide attempt, according to Eric Proschek, his attorney.

So 35 Clonipin was a suicide attempt and instead of drifting off into the loving arms of satan he remembers being in her house and gloving up and was found with the murder weapon and her blood.

This is the first time I've heard of the ink poisoning method of suicide though, sheer genius I tell ya!

Update: Since his arrest, Robert Commire has tried to commit suicide at least once, and now the father of two children will most likely never be a free man again.

"The law justifiably requires that I impose only one sentence for this heinous crime," Schmidt said.

"You admittedly took the life of another person, showing no mercy in the course of robbing her for your own gain."

That sentence is mandatory life without parole. Closing statements begin Tuesday morning in the murder trial of Shawn Commire.

By the way, misunderstood, I *do* understand how you can love a person and then discover they have done something horrible. I respect you for being able to say that you do not love the person who could kill someone, and it is clear in the entry that Unamused Cat posted that this is causing you a lot of pain. I hope you realize that the person you love does not exist, can work through that pain, and can go on to live a happy life anyway. The choices he made are irreversible--he took a LIFE--but knowing and caring for this person should not prevent YOU from going on to love a person who deserves your affection and to bear and raise children who are taught that human life is valuable and beautiful.

BAY CITY - (05/12/08) - A second teenager responsible for the murder of Bay City woman has been sent to prison for the rest of his life.

Shawn Commire, 17, was found guilty by a jury last month in the death of Rita Salogar.
