Ms. Cervone's 2006 black Volkswagen Jetta was involved in an accident at 3:13 a.m. last Monday on the Parkway West inbound near the Carnegie on-ramp. The car struck the concrete jersey barrier several times and came to rest in the passing lane, police said.
Police said they linked the abandoned car to Ms. Cervone. At the time of the accident last Monday, five 911 calls were made about the accident, but
only one caller mentioned seeing a person slumped over the wheel of the car, said Lt. Dan Herrmann of the Pittsburgh Police.
When State Police arrived at the scene last Monday, they found the car abandoned. It was unknown if Ms. Cervone was driving the car at the time of the accident.
Lt. Herrmann said
police used dogs to search a wooded area around the accident location but found nothing. The case is suspicous, he said, because Ms. Cervone left her cell phone at home as well as at least one cat. Her neighbor, a friend who reported her missing, said Ms. Cervone always asks her neighbor to watch her cat, even if she is just going to be gone for half a day. She did not make such a request this time, Lt. Herrmann said.
