Janet Cervone's car was in an accident but where is Janet? *deceased*

Police said today the accident that occurred on Parkway West early in the morning last Monday involved the car of a woman reported missing last Wednesday.

Janet Cervone, 57, of Bloomfield, was reported missing on Wednesday to Pittsburgh Police. Friends reported last seeing her Aug. 2.

Ms. Cervone's 2006 black Volkswagen Jetta was involved in an accident at 3:13 a.m. last Monday on the Parkway West inbound near the Carnegie on-ramp. The car struck the concrete jersey barrier several times and came to rest in the passing lane, police said.

Police said they linked the abandoned car to Ms. Cervone. At the time of the accident last Monday, five 911 calls were made about the accident, but only one caller mentioned seeing a person slumped over the wheel of the car, said Lt. Dan Herrmann of the Pittsburgh Police.

When State Police arrived at the scene last Monday, they found the car abandoned. It was unknown if Ms. Cervone was driving the car at the time of the accident.

Lt. Herrmann said police used dogs to search a wooded area around the accident location but found nothing. The case is suspicous, he said, because Ms. Cervone left her cell phone at home as well as at least one cat. Her neighbor, a friend who reported her missing, said Ms. Cervone always asks her neighbor to watch her cat, even if she is just going to be gone for half a day. She did not make such a request this time, Lt. Herrmann said.

Neighbors told the police and the Tribune-Review that Cervone -- a recently unemployed nurse dependent on an inhaler to treat her emphysema -- was last seen around 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 2. She had complained to friends that her stomach hurt and that she was going to sip ginger ale and stay in for the night. The back door that led from her apartment to her car was padlocked and chained, but the front door was open.

Cash and change had been left in the apartment, along with her cell phone, inhaler, a bottle of Advil, a cup of coffee, laundry and dishes to be washed. Also left behind was her aged, blind cat -- a pet her neighbors said she doted on and would never abandon.

There were no signs of struggle at the apartment, according to police and neighbors. Her car was last seen at her apartment about midnight Aug. 2, three hours before the collision in Carnegie. Detectives don't know if she drove the Jetta to Carnegie or if she was a passenger. Pittsburgh officers have taken possession of the car

Neighbors are feeding the cat. She had lived on South Pacific Avenue for nearly two decades.

Did she come to harm after the accident and they just haven't found her? Could something more sinister have occurred?

Why would the back door be chained and padlocked?

Why would any Padlock a door in any part of their house? Of course I am picturing a combination lock, or a lock with a key...

Could she have been an undignosed Diabetic? That could explain the upset stomach, and why she was later seen slumped over the wheel...

    Wow

    So many questions....

    Janet Found?

SCOTT TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A body was discovered under a Parkway West/Interstate 279 overpass in Scott Township, not far from the spot where Janet Cervone's crashed, empty car was found on the highway last week.
WTAE Channel 4's Bob Mayo reported that the body was found Wednesday in a wooded area known as Whiskey Hollow. It's located off Bell Road, not far from the intersection where Bell meets Noblestown Road.

The dead woman has not been identified yet. Allegheny County police Superintendent Charles Moffatt said a construction worker found the body while he was inspecting the area under the overpass.

    Identified/Found

The woman's body was found last week, but it wasn't until Monday that the Allegheny County medical examiner could publicly identify her as Cervone. Results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death are pending.

Leaving the door open, at home, her cat and cell phone, seems she was disoriented and maybe tried to drive herself to a hospital...

Maybe those dogs need more training, too!
