An Elsmere man is facing charges for assaulting his 7-month-old baby boy who later died from his injuries.

Prosecutors say the baby, Gaige Pyles, died Monday night at Cincinnati Children's Hospital from head injuries.

The baby's father, Matthew Pyles, 26, is being held at the Kenton County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

According to court documents, Pyles "admitted to shaking his seven month old baby son on Aug. 15, at his home in Elsmere. The baby sustained serious brain injuries as a result of the shaking."

Police suspect the crime happened at this Elsmere home on Saturday.

Investigators say Gaige was brought to St. Elizabeth hospital in Florence by his parents.

He was then moved to Children's Hospital.

Prosecutors said Pyles' assault charge will be amended to a murder charge when he heads to court next week.

An Elsmere man was convicted Friday of shaking and killing his infant son.

A jury found 27-year-old Matthew Pyles guilty of second-degree manslaughter and recommended a 10-year prison term.

Gaige Alan Pyles, 7 months, of Elsmere died Monday at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

His brother, Shane Town, died in 1999.

Survivors include his mother, Johnna Town of Elsmere; father, Matthew Pyles of Elsmere; sister, Caitlyn Town of Elsmere; brothers, Michael Town and Jack Town, both of Elsmere; grandparents, Sue Griffin of Elsmere, J.T. Gulley of Sanders, Sissy Miller of Covington and Gary Pyles of Florida; and great-grandmother, Jean Akins of Grant County.

What a sweet child. So sorry baby Gaige, you deserved your life to live it full and happy!
