BOCA RATON, Fla. -- A West Boca Raton, Fla., High School senior died after complications during a breast augmentation surgery after having a bad reaction to anesthesia medication given to her during the surgery.

I don't think I would let my teenager have a surgery like that to begin with.

It was to fix a breast deformity, which is different than having the surgery to make them bigger. There are a lot of people who suffer ill effects of anesthesia medications. I am one of those, I got bit by a snake and had complications so went into surgery. The doctor used twilight sleep on me at first, until I grabbed the scalpel out of her hand, jumped up on the operating table and was trying to stab the doctor and the surgical nurses with it. I had cut marks all over my hands and dried blood when I woke up and asked what they did to me. I had no idea this had happened until I woke up and they told me that I was a very naughty girl and what I had done.…lol

I have fucked up reactions to most anesthetics and narcotics/painkillers, too. I'm scared to death I might need surgery one day, and be put 'under', and never wake up again. The strongest medication I've had in 15 years is OTC extra strength tylenol, and 800mg motrin after the births of each of my children. The strongest anesthetic I've had is lidocaine, when I've had to have a root canal (several times). Even when I had an abscess about a month ago (I think it was in my sinus cavity), all I could take was tylenol and motrin.

I am also really scared that one or more of my children might have inherited my intolerance to meds, and might have a bad reaction to something of that nature, one day. It's so sad that someone so young has died in this manner. Aren't there some sort of tests that can be done to determine whether a person will react like this, before dosing them up for surgery? If these tests exist, wouldn't it make sense to test people before administering anesthetics? Just wondering.....

That's my question Angel, it seems like this is an avoidable way to die that while not prolific seems to occur more often than I understand.

What is really bad, is that I have to work with these people...lol
They have never let me forget the day the nurse went wild in the operating room as a patient...lol
I reminded them that nurses make the worst patients.....lol
