Mukilteo parents charged with rape of their own children

The mother is accused of having sex with her son; the father has been charged with sexually assaulting their son and daughter.

MUKILTEO — A Mukilteo woman is accused of having sex with her elementary school-aged son at the urging of her husband.

The woman, 44, was charged Thursday with first-degree rape of a child. Her husband, 42, was charged in June with two counts of first-degree rape of a child. He is accused of sexually assaulting his son and the couple’s daughter for several years.

The Herald is not publishing the names of the defendants to protect the identities of their children.

The allegations came to the attention of Mukilteo police in June after the boy, now 17, reported that he’d been forced to have sex with his mother beginning when he was 10.

He alleged that his father, often drunk, was abusive to him and his mother.

The boy reported that his father watched as his mother sexually abused him and at times would join the assault, Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Chris Dickinson wrote in court papers. He also allegedly showed his son pornography depicting boys engaged in sexual intercourse with their mothers.

After the teen reported the abuse to police, his older sister reported that she, too, had been sexually assaulted by their father, Dickinson wrote. She told investigators she was abused from the time she was 6 until she was about 13 years old and physically strong enough to fight off the assaults, court papers said.

The siblings’ mother was interviewed by police and denied the allegations against her. Her husband also has denied the allegations.

Later, a judge allowed police to secretly record a phone call between the woman and her son. In the conversation, the woman allegedly admitted to having sexual contact with her child.

She urged her son to recant his story to help his father avoid jail time, Dickinson wrote. The woman allegedly told the boy she would give him whatever he wanted if he cooperated with her, court papers said.

The boy’s father was arrested June 9. He remains in the Snohomish County Jail on $250,000 bail.

His mother has not been arrested. She is expected to appear in court later this month.

It's the equivalent of being released with no bond. She still faces charges but doesn't get put in jail waiting until court.

Best guess is that they are not worried about her taking off and view her as a quasi-victim also. Kind of hard to tell for sure without more details.

I'm wondering about mother's mental status. I see a possibility here that this is a woman who might not be fully competent, for one reason or another.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that she knew what she was doing was just sick, but she may not have understood the full implications.
I'm thinking that there must be something very pitiable about her if they left her loose awaiting trial.
I agree, it's sick and it's wrong and it never should have happened, but I want to know a little more about the mother.

She and the boy are staying with a family member; the older daughter is an adult and still living in the family home with her mother, according to police.

Kang said the boy had left the family home sometime before he contacted police.

“All of the children in our view are secure and safe; no more sexual abuse can occur,” Kang said.

The older daughter is an adult and out of the jurisdiction of CPS, Kang explained, and not in any danger as long as her father remains in custody.

Should he make bail, the court would likely issue a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting any of his children, including his adult daughter.

While the mother hasn’t been formally arrested, she is expected to appear in court soon.

Kang said that the mother has not been formally arrested because at the time the charge was filed, the children were no longer at risk, and the investigation was still ongoing.

She has an arraignment scheduled at the end of this month, at which time the judge will determine whether she will be remanded into custody, asked to post bail or released on her own recognizance, Kang said.

“It’s out of our hands now,” he said of the woman not being in custody. “It’s now up to the judge and the attorneys.”

Everything has to go through the proper procedures, Kang explained, in order to protect everyone’s constitutional rights.

The police’s job is to be diligent in gathering the necessary information and building a solid case; the judge and attorneys take it from there.

“That’s the point of the criminal justice system,” he said. “It gives everyone a chance to prove their innocence.”

Man, this sort of human is the scum at the bottom of the barrel; they don't come any lower than this. Even if the mother is "slow", in this day and age, there are just too many places one can go to get help out of this sort of situation. No excuses for either parent in my opinion. The very thought of sex between a parent & child makes my stomach heave! The man needs to be put down like the sick animal he is....

I can't imagine that these kids will ever get over this entirely, even with professional help. The betrayal level, neglect, abuse on so many levels is overwhelming.
