DETROIT --Wayne County Sheriff’s deputies went to a home to serve an arrest warrant for a man they believed was a deadbeat dad behind in child support and discovered an illegal marijuana- growing operation.
Deputies said the man who lived at the home was $40,000 behind in his child support payments. Once they were inside the home on Wabash Street near the old Tiger stadium, they discovered an assault rifle, which caused them to further search the home.
The sheriff’s department discovered $500,000 in marijuana plants, drug paraphernalia and weapons in its search. In total, there were about 100 marijuana plants both inside and outside the home.
Deputies said there was also a lighting system in the basement to help grow the marijuana and an overdue electric bill for more than $7,000.
The man who was arrested was not identified.
