Police: Human Trafficking Ring Busted In GreenwichGREENWICH, Conn.
-- A Willimantic family saved three relatives who had been kidnapped in Texas, police said.

Police said several people were kidnapped as part of a human trafficking ring in Texas. Greenwich police were contacted by members of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, alerting them that the kidnappers and the victims were traveling in a blue van to Willimantic.

The victims were being taken to Willimantic for ransom, police said.

Police said the family agreed to meet the captors with ransom money Sunday at the Riverside Commons Shopping Center in Greenwich Instead of money, the family showed up with baseball bats, police said.

Greenwich police received calls of a fight and said one of two of the kidnapping suspects was arrested.

Police said all vehicles involved in the investigation, including the blue van, were located.

ICE officials took over the investigation and ordered four people held for interviews and immigration violations

-- Several people were detained in a human smuggling investigation in Greenwich, police said.

Greenwich police said they were contacted by members of Immigration and Customs Enforcement who said they were searching for a van containing several people who were kidnapped in Texas and being delivered for ransom to Willimantic.

Police said they received a 911 call at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday reporting a fight at the Thruway shopping center. The caller said those fighting were wielding baseball bats and fled in several vehicles.

Police located and detained 19 suspects in connection with the fight Greenwich police said an investigation revealed that those involved in the fight were the same group of people involved in the ICE investigation.

Police said family members of those kidnapped tried to take the victims from their captors, resulting in the Thruway fight.

Family members rescued three victims and apprehended one of two of the alleged kidnappers.

Police said all vehicles involved in the investigation, including the blue van, were located.
