An Eastern Kentucky couple is in jail charged in what one state trooper says is the worst child abuse cases she has ever seen.
It happened in the Pigeonroost community in Perry County Tuesday Afternoon.
Police say Albert Noble and Ashley Throckmorton are charged with criminal abuse after a family member found the child badly beaten in the couple’s home.
We talked to the trooper who responded to the call, who described the child's injuries as "horrific".
Kentucky State Police Trooper Jackie Pickrell says the call came in around 1:30 Tuesday afternoon about a two-year-old child possibly being assaulted and the mother would not take the child to the hospital.
Pickrell says, “Allegedly, the mother made the statement that if she took the child to the doctor, to be treated that social services would be involved and she was fearful of charges against her.”
Pickrell says when she arrived, the child had several visible injuries.
“She had busted, swollen lips and had a very large bruise on her forehead and numerous other injuries over her body,” Pickrell says.
Both Noble and Throckmorton are being held in the Kentucky River Regional Jail and both have declined us an interview. However, some members of the community are raising their concerns.
“It's terrible,” Kristina Price says. “I have three kids of my own. Just to hear something like that so close to where we live it at is unbelievable.”
Herbert Lovins says, “I don't like to hear stuff like that. I really don't.”
Kristina Price just moved to the area. She says the incident is making her keep a closer on eye on her own kids.
“We just moved here from Indianapolis and my kids have been trying to find friends and running around the neighborhood and trying to play,” Price says.
Price says she and her family will pray for the child and her recovery.
If Noble is convicted of the first degree abuse charge, he could face up to ten years in prison.
Throckmorton could spend five years behind bars on the second degree charge.
The child was treated for her injuries at a local hospital and is now in the care of a relative.
