The 4-year-old was found wandering near a 7-Eleven store about noon July 1, Clabes said. He had apparently walked away from Jones' apartment.
Jones later told police he had been in the shower when the boy walked away and that he looked for him before calling police, Clabes said. But no relative called to report the boy missing until after 5 p.m., when the boy's picture was shown on television newscasts, and officers who remained near the area for several hours before that didn't see Jones.
Clabes said there were similar previous incidents involving the boy in Norman and Del City. Prosecutors filed the neglect charge Monday in Oklahoma County District Court.
