New Castle County police say a 21-year-old Newark resident fatally stabbed his girlfriend early this morning using a Samurai sword.

Police have arrested Michael Kolesar, of the unit block of Sandlewood Drive in the Glen Eagle Village Apartments. He has been charged with manslaughter.

Police gave the following account of events:

Kolesar and his girlfriend were arguing after coming from home from a bar. The fight became physical.

Police were called to the apartment and when they arrived, just after 1 a.m., they found two men in the apartment and the victim in the bedroom.

Police said she was stabbed in the upper torso with a four-foot-long sword. The second man in the apartment has not been charged and was released. Kolesar also was charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.

sure, manslaughter. he had NO IDEA that stabbing someone with a fuckin' SAMURAI sword would kill them. he didn't mean to, he was just..what?? trying to scare her? trying to make a point? maybe he just meant to hurt her, not kill her. manslaughter, yeah. why not just take away his tv privileges?

Killing her with a samurai sword shows that he had great respect & honor for her, and that is why he chose that particular weapon. She died a good, noble death. He should not be punished.

You are absolutely correct, DB. However, he should have decapitated her as well....one must follow the proper protocol.

He was the cause of my daughter's death on January 16, 2007.
My Jillian, too was his girlfriend, until I made them break up (she was 17 years old)...
but still she "felt sorry" for him... he is a needy piece of trash.
Made her, and me too, feel sorry him... later to find out that he is a lieing, selfish user.
After I realized the emotional and then phyical abuse he submitted on Jillian; I had to end their relationship.
But he still managed to cause her death....
He is a SERIAL KILLER !!! preying on the young, beautiful souls that want to "help" him. If he does not spend the rest of his miserable life in jail... he will KILL again.

I pray for my baby Jillian; for this poor girl and her family; and that JUSTICE is brought to this evil coward.

these apartments are about 4 miles from where i used to live in Delaware. They are really skank-a-licious.
What a fuckin nut. I would never go to a bar with someone and go home with them knowing they had fuckin swords at their house. Or live with anyone that needed to have them. Had something to drink, get a little pissed something bad's gonna happen.

Are you serious? I happen to think weapons are hot. I fell for a guy once when I went to his house after the bar and his living room looked like a medieval armory. Just because someone is an avid collector does not mean that he/she has the propensity to use them on mates. Most folks that I have ever met wouldn't want to tarnish their badass swords with the blood of a girlfriend (not worth enough adversary in their eyes). The guy was a sick jerk off apparently, anything sharp or remotely weapon like would have sufficed at that moment I'm sure. Owning a sword or any kind of hand wielded weapon does not implicate that one is capable of using them so easily on a human.

My ex owned 62 guns and had them all in his house. But he doesn't drink. Drinking and weapons rarely mix well.

A 21-year-old woman died early Sunday when her boyfriend stabbed her with a four-foot-long samurai sword at their apartment after the pair got into an argument, police said.

Officers found Angel Zurlo dead from a stab wound in the upper torso. Her body was in a rear bedroom of the couple's home in the Glen Eagle Village Apartments near Newark shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday, said New Castle County police spokesman Cpl. Trinidad Navarro. Police arrested Michael Kolesar, 21, and a friend of the couple, who was released without being charged, Navarro said. Kolesar is charged with manslaughter and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.

According to court documents, the pair had been in an argument at Mango's, a nearby bar. It continued when they got to their home on the first block of Sandalwood Drive.

Police arrived after receiving a call about a stabbing and court documents show Kolesar told police, "She's in there, she's in there, she's dying, please come help her." Officers said they found Zurlo stabbed with the sword.

As Kolesar was being arrested, he said, "I didn't mean to do it. I killed her, she means everything to me," according to documents.

Kolesar and Zurlo showed signs of physical abuse, and he had a scratch on the left side of his neck, documents show.

A witness told police Zurlo carried the sword into the room. When Kolesar tried to disarm her, the argument continued and then he stabbed her.

Kolesar told police he was intoxicated and remembers choking but not stabbing Zurlo. He said he couldn't "remember exactly what happened," that he was "in a rage, and probably at fault," court documents show.

Navarro said Kolesar was charged with manslaughter because the case seemed to involve self-defense.

Apartment complex residents said they weren't worried because the incident was not a random crime.

Anyway update

April 16, 2010 -- An Ogletown man has pleaded guilty to killing his girlfriend with a samurai sword during an argument last year.

Twenty-two-year-old Michael Kolesar pleaded guilty Thursday to criminally negligent homicide. In exchange for the plea, prosecutors will drop manslaughter and weapons charges.

Kolesar faces up to five years in prison at sentencing in July.

Court documents state Kolesar and his girlfriend, 21-year-old Angel Zurlo, argued at a bar near the Glen Eagle Village Apartments complex where they lived and the fight escalated after they returned home.

When police were called, officers found Zurlo dead from a stab wound.

A witness told police Zurlo carried the sword into the room and that the stabbing took place when Kolesar tried to disarm her.
