http://cbs4.com/local/Scott.Janke.fort.2.1097863.htmlThe town manager of Ft. Myers Beach was given his walking papers after the mayor and town council found out that he was married to a porn star.
In a vote of 5-0, the council fired Scott Janke "without cause" during an emergency meeting Wednesday night after finding out that afternoon that his wife worked in the adult film industry.
Mayor Larry Kiker told the News-Press of Fort Myers "We did everything we could not to judge. It's not about him and her. It's about the town."
Councilman Tom Babcock said that Janke was fired because the council thought his wife's profession brought an inaccurate image to Fort Myers Beach.
Janke's wife Anabela Mota Janke goes by her professional name Jazella More, according to the Adult Industry News.
"Our heads are held high," said Janke after the vote. "We have nothing to be embarrassed about. We've done nothing wrong."
Janke said he and his wife were married in October and are taking care of their three teenage children. He wouldn't comment on any possible legal action against the town.
Janke will get a severance package worth six months salary, which comes to about $50,000, plus health benefits.
http://www.abc-7.com/Global/story.asp?S=10774622During the meeting Wednesday night, Fort Myers Beach residents mostly showed disapproval regarding Scott Janke's termination.
"I have no idea why this man is getting fired," said Fort Myers Beach resident Paul Christin.
Everyone who supported former Fort Myers Beach Town Manager Scott Janke says he shouldn't be judged or fired for his wife Anabela Mota Janke's profession.
"There are a lot of things going on here on the beach that aren't exactly family friendly and everybody knows it. We're being hypocritical, I think," said Fort Myers Beach resident Pat Smith. "It condemns our credibility"
Fort Myers Beach Town Councilwoman Jo List says she believes the images of Janke's wife, whose stage name is Jazella Moore, would make it difficult for him to make deals with other leaders and would turn away at least some tourists.
Fort Myers Beach Mayor Larry Kiker added that letting Janke go wasn't easy. But he says it had to be done to save the sand and surf's reputation.
"It was awkward. It was awkward," he said. "His words to me were, 'You made the right decision.' There's no animosity from us to him and I don't believe there's animosity from him to us"
Still, some islanders aren't happy.
"I think Mr. Janke has been an excellent town manager," Smith said.

I will never again image search a porn star name with the "Safe Search" filter off.
