Amber Alert: Zane Newton Is Missing (CA)

Bakersfield, CA – Nine-year-old Zane Newton was apparently abducted and possibly shot this morning at his home in Bakersfield, and an Amber Alert has been issued. Zane is white, 4 feet 3 inches tall and 75 pounds. He was taken at about 10:35 a.m. Zane has brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing long denim shorts and a loop earring. He also has a birthmark on his chin.
Zane’s kidnapper was described as 6 feet tall. He was last seen wearing possibly black clothing and a mask. He was last seen driving a black Honda with a white door on the driver’s side. The car also has a green license plate frame.

According to police, Zane was playing with another 9-year-old boy outside his home when the boy said a black-looking Honda-type vehicle with a white driver-side door pulled up. The boy told police that a man got out of the car, shot Zane in the shoulder, and forced him into the vehicle. According to police, there was no blood at scene and no steel casings, so the shooting has not been confirmed. One neighbor said she heard muffled noises and a possible shot coming from down the street, but didn’t think anything of it. Police are looking for a white male wearing black clothing, a possible black mask or dark face make-up.

Front page is updated - Zane's body has been found, and he was not abducted. Instead, the story was made up by a nine year old friend who was playing with Zane in a tunnel near a sump in the neighborhood. The tunnel collapsed on Zane, killing him, and the friend made up the abduction story to keep from getting into trouble.

The mother had already buried two sons, who died shortly after birth due to a genetic defect. Her husband is home after losing part of a leg.

I would have thought their last name was Job if I didn't know better.

This story just kills me. My son is nine, and I cannot fathom what the family is enduring.

That story is so sad :(
I feel horrible for Zane's family! How cruel the world can be, these people have endured more then their fair share.
