Obama's Race Speech: Help or Hurt?

Im genuinely surprised to see that this hasnt been brought up yet.

Anyone catch his race speech? And if so, what are your thoughts? Help his cause? Hurt it? How about him saying he could no more disown the Reverend anymore so than he could disown his white grandma who used racial slurs from time to time and admitted fearing blacks who walked down the street at times?

How about him speaking of whites who are sick and tired of welfare and affirmative action, who didnt create or have a part in the racial history, and who are sick a damn tired of hearing about it, and being blamed?

The immigrant children, who are America's children?

The black struggle in America? How he is a part of it, relates to it, and attends a black church?

Overall, will it stop all the media rhetoric going around? Did he smash the Wright controversy, or will it continue to damage his stock?

I'll tell ya....the man can speak. He is gifted with a silver tongue.

I'd like to see him and Reverend Wright go at it. It's hard for me to swallow that he totally disagreed with a lot of things the guy said, yet continued to listen to him preach for 20 some odd years. Everybody is so impressed with this speech but it sounds like the same old vote nabbing rhetoric to me; play it up to all sides, then focus on change without offering anything solid. He even lassos in conspirist theorists and fear about big corporations while denouncing the war in Iraq, again, what shame. Lost points for me, not that I plan on really voting for him anyways, I don't want a wind watching president, or one that serves as some symbolic punctuation point.

All he had to say was "Nigger's crazy".

To me, its not the same old vote grabbing rhetoric. I actually thought some of the shit he said was dangerous.

But yeah, had he said nigga's carazay, he certainly wouldve picked up more California votes, and perhaps if Florida did have a do over, it would be a little more in his favor.

I was quite pissed when I heard Obama's race speech.

I thought he was going to talk about NASCAR.

I don't trust ANY politician, but I did like the speech. ALL of it. In fact, I agreed with pretty much every single word he said. But being that he is a politician, I am not sure it means much.

That being said, it sure would be nice to see a man stand in front of the world representing our country, who did not sound like a goddamn retard...regardless if it is true or not. That's one thing, and the only thing, I missed about Clinton. The dude could speak. This guy can as well. I cannot possibly see how it could have hurt. Anyone who wasn't voting for him because of his color, still isn't. Anyone not voting for him because of his political views probably still isn't either.

But I do think, unless someone has a better speech, that he hit the nail on the head on a lot of issues in regards to race in the US.
