A man and woman have been arrested for allegedly beating their five-month-old daughter.
The victim was being cared for by her grandmother at her home in Jamaica Wednesday night. While changing the child’s diaper, the grandmother observed swelling and bruising to the child’s right leg.
A short time later, the child’s 25-year-old mother, Christina Benjamin, arrived to pick up her child and was advised of the possible injuries. Benjamin took her daughter home without taking her to a doctor.
On Friday, the victim’s 41-year-old father, Scott Archbold, told Benjamin that their child may have suffered some facial injuries. Benjamin then took her daughter to Franklin General Hospital in Valley Stream.
The child was taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital in New Hyde Park, where she was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit with multiple bone fractures and internal bleeding.
Benjamin and Scott were arrested Saturday. Benjamin was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and Archbold was charged with first- and second-degree assault. Both defendants will be arraigned on Sunday.
