COLUMBUS, Ohio —The movie “Ice Age” is popular with children, but one cartoon character has one Columbus woman upset –- thinking the Happy Meal toy from the movie is using foul language.
While it may be obvious to some that the talking toy is saying, “Everybody loves Sid,” it wasn’t so clear to Chequela Bowman. She thought the character, a sloth from the “Ice Age” movies, said “Everybody loves [expletive].”
Bowman said Wednesday she went through the drive-through at the McDonald’s near the airport.
After her 2-year-old son ate his meal, he had a new favorite word.
“My youngest came around and said, ‘[expletive], [expletive]’ and I was like, ‘Why’s he saying that?’ and he’s like, ‘Listen to the toy,’ “ Bowman said.
In an attempt to diffuse the issue, Bowman called the McDonald’s corporate office and by late afternoon had not received much response.
Wednesday evening, McDonald’s sent NBC 4 a statement stating, “The phrase ‘Everybody loves Sid’ featured in the Sid The Sloth Happy Meal toy, was provided to us by FOX, directly from the film, which is rated PG.”
McDonald’s selection process ensures the phrases selected to be featured in our Happy Meal toys are consistent with the stringent standards that we attribute to all of our Happy Meal toy offerings.
“I just hope that they take them from the shelf and don’t sell them anymore until they correct the problem because it sounds too much like, ‘Everybody loves [expletive],‘ “ Bowman said.
