The 10-month-old victim of an Edwardsville child abuse case died Saturday, and the accused attacker is behind bars in lieu of a $1 million bond.
On June 17, medical staff from Overland Park Regional Medical Center notified the Edwardsville Police Department of an unresponsive Kawliga Alexander Wiseman, the 10-month-old infant son of Brandy Wiseman and Galon King, Edwardsville, who was presented to the emergency room for treatment of life-threatening injuries to the head. The child was transported to Children’s Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, Mo., where he remained in critical condition until he died.
The Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office on Friday charged Anderson Cheffen, 31, of Kansas City, Kan., with one count of child abuse relating to the case. Cheffen was staying at the 10-month-old’s residence at the time of the incident, authorities said.
A representative with the District Attorney’s Office said an upgrade of charges from child abuse to homicide was expected in the coming week.
