Shawn Hazel Kills Guy, Gets Time Served

LaGrangeville, NY - who was under the influence of drugs when he was involved in a fatal, two-car crash in LaGrange in 2006 was sentenced today to the time he had already served in jail and placed on probation for five years.

Dutchess County Court Judge Thomas J. Dolan imposed the sentence on Shawn E. Hazel, 39, of East Noxon Road.

Hazel admitted last month he had ingested oxycodone before his car collided with a car driven by 73-year-old Louis Antolotti, also of LaGrangeville, on Aug. 11, 2006. The accident happened at about 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Noxon and Todd Hill roads.

Hazel entered guilty pleas last month to driving while his ability was impaired by drugs, a felony, and two misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Hazel served about 11 months in jail awaiting the disposition of his case. He was also fined $1,000.

You have no idea how much this pisses me off.
I lived less than 2 miles from this guy growing up, we were on the same school bus...on the few days he decided to actually go to school.
He was always one of those kids you just know is going to grow up to become a criminal.
I know for a fact he had a juvenile record and I'd be willing to bet this is far from his first offense as an adult.
The only surprise to anyone in the community was that he lasted this long before he finally ended up killing someone.
Oh and, you know...the fact that when he DID kill someone his only punishment is 11 months and $1,000 fine!!!!

Maybe he'll get more next time.
Believe me, there will be a next time.
