Robert Akin Brown, 50

FORT PIERCE — A man accused of chasing his girlfriend with a machete before strolling along Ninth Street drinking from a 16 ounce can of Keystone Ice is facing charges, according to a recently released arrest affidavit.

The victim told police the 12:40 a.m. Wednesday incident happened after her 50-year-old boyfriend, Robert Akin Brown, got mad because “she didn’t want to be together anymore,” the affidavit states.

That’s when Brown, of the 900 block of Avenue H, allegedly pulled out a machete and ran after the victim. “That (expletive) was chasing me with a machete knife,” the victim is quoted as yelling.

A witness said Brown ran down Ninth Street after the alleged machete chase.

Investigators found Brown walking in the 800 block of Ninth Street, imbibing a cold beer. Brown gave this account, according to police:

“I got into an argument with (the victim) ‘cause she spent all her money now she wants my money. I had a fishing knife on me but I didn’t chase her or nothing like that.” Investigators didn’t find the “machete knife.”

Statements in the report alternately refer to the weapon as a machete, a knife and a “machete knife.”

Brown was arrested on charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and consumption of alcoholic beverage in public place.
