FORT PIERCE — A man accused of chasing his girlfriend with a machete before strolling along Ninth Street drinking from a 16 ounce can of Keystone Ice is facing charges, according to a recently released arrest affidavit.
The victim told police the 12:40 a.m. Wednesday incident happened after her 50-year-old boyfriend, Robert Akin Brown, got mad because “
she didn’t want to be together anymore,” the affidavit states.
That’s when Brown, of the 900 block of Avenue H, allegedly pulled out a machete and ran after the victim.
“That (expletive) was chasing me with a machete knife,” the victim is quoted as yelling.
A witness said Brown ran down Ninth Street after the alleged machete chase.
Investigators found Brown walking in the 800 block of Ninth Street, imbibing a cold beer. Brown gave this account, according to police:
“I got into an argument with (the victim)
‘cause she spent all her money now she wants my money. I had a fishing knife on me but I didn’t chase her or nothing like that.” Investigators didn’t find the “machete knife.”
Statements in the report alternately refer to the weapon as a machete, a knife and a “machete knife.”
Brown was arrested on charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and consumption of alcoholic beverage in public place.
