LEXINGTON — A 24-year-old Davidson County man faces felony child abuse charges after an infant was taken to the hospital with a broken left leg.
The Davidson County Sheriff's Office said Devin Lantz Sylvester of 198 Green Meadows Drive is being held in the county jail on two counts of felony child abuse.
The sheriff's office said the county's Child Protective Services notified it of the possible abuse on June 30 when the baby was brought to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. The infant, who was 45 days old, had suffered a broken left femur, and the sheriff's office said the injury did not appear to be accidental.
Detectives arrested Sylvester on July 1, and he was charged with one count of felony child abuse. A magistrate initially set bond at $5,000, but a district court judge raised it to $100,000.
On July 2, the county's Child Protective Services notified the sheriff's office that the baby's twin sibling also had suffered multiple fractures. Sylvester was charged with a second count of felony child abuse, and his bond was raised to $250,000.
The sheriff's office did not identify either infant or disclose their conditions Monday.
