Caller informs mother where she can find her dead son

T" told Barnett that she had heard her son begging for his life.

"She said he was saying, ‘I’m sorry man, don’t kill me’ and after that the gunshot,” Barnett said.

The mother said "T" told her that her son, 26-year-old Derrick Godfrey, was dead and that his body was located at 13700 Duncum near Ironwood in east Harris County.

Barnett called 911 and headed to the scene. Sure enough, her son's body was lying in the road with a gunshot wound.

Can't get much crueler than that. Hopefully they'll be able to trace the caller, who in my option, is more than a "bystander"

I wonder what the son was up to that he was involved with this "T" person. This does not sound like the sort of person you would run into at the church potluck.

It is possible that this "T" person is just a complete moron who's too terrified of the police to call them. Perhaps she called the mother out of a genuine desire to help. If "T" is involved in criminal activity, it wouldn't be a stretch to think she'd be afraid of the cops. Also, it's not unreasonable to infer from the situation in which "T" is involved that she has poor decision making skills. "Socially awkward, dumbass, petty criminal feels bad for mother of guy who got shot." Just a thought.

On the other hand, she could be a part of the incident, and a cold-hearted monster who needs to be eliminated along with the vermin she's associating with. If nothing else, she certainly knows the identity of the shooter, whether it's her or not.

I'll be interested to hear more about this story.

I think you might have read that wrong. It's a bit convoluted! The mother in this case did not hear it actually happen; it was described to her by this "T" person, who did "overhear" his murder. It's still horrible, but it was second hand.

I say this for clarity's sake, not to diminish this poor woman's suffering. I can't imagine hearing the story and then going to discover his body. It must have been just surreal, like a living nightmare.

This story sent chills down my spine. As a mother, I think I would have to be committed after getting such a call. My prayers are with her.
