Lashaundra Cooper leaves kids in car to go shoplifting

A woman left two children, ages 1 and 3, alone in an unlocked car while she went into a Marietta Wal-Mart and shoplifted items for herself, according to Cobb arrest warrants.

One of the children was wearing only a shirt and nothing on his bottom half, according to an officer who approached the vehicle.

Lashaundra Chantee Cooper, 23, was arrested at 12:30 a.m. Saturday when an officer located her vehicle with the two children inside.

The 1-year-old was screaming and walking on the front seat, according to the warrant. The keys were in the ignition. There was one car seat in the vehicle, but neither child was in it, according to the warrant.

So I've heard that it's easier to get away with shoplifting if you have your children with you.
This makes you wonder, are these people TRYING to go to jail and get their kids taken from them.

I fully agree! It's way easier (if htat's your goal) to hide the merchendise in the stroller... of course, you'll have to put pants on them... let's hope the 3 year old was the bottomless one. He at least has a prayer of being potty trained.

How are they going to learn how to shoplift correctly if you don't take them with you? Admittedly, a 1 year old is going to be limited on how much he picks up, but never underestimate the absorption ability of a young child :D

MARIETTA, Ga. -- Marietta police said they arrested a mother who allegedly left her young children in her unlocked car so she could shoplift inside a Wal-Mart.

Police said Lashaundra Chantee Cooper, 23, was initially detained by Wal-Mart security when she was attempting to leave the Marietta store without paying for $24.75 worth of clothing items for herself.

Marietta police Officer M.C. Humfleet responded to the scene and was explaining arrest procedures to Cooper when she told the officer her children were in her vehicle.

Officers said they found her 1-year-old and 3-year-old childen in an unlocked car in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Officers said the keys were in the ignition.

Police said one child was found only wearing a shirt with nothing on his bottom half. Officials said there was only one car seat in the vehicle, but neither child was in it.

Cooper was charged with child cruelty and shoplifting.

Nancy Bodiford with the Cobb County Sheriff's Office said Cooper remained in the Cobb County Jail Monday with no bond.

Nice how the picture on her MySpace of her kids asleep in the car show one kid buckled (with the shoulder belt behind her back) and one kid apparently not bucked in at all and neither kid in child seats.
