Two faced baby worshipped in India.

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,337492,00.html

The residents of the small village where the baby was born have begun gathering to worship the child, seen as an incarnation of God.

The girl was born in Gautam Budh Nagar in the suburbs of Delhi.

She was born to Vinod Singh and Sushma at Saifai Hospital in Dadr, India.

"Both mother and the child are healthy and doing fine," Dr Aas Mohammad, of Saifai Hospital, told IBNLive.com.

I think this is one of those extreme cases of Siamese twinning. Only the separation stopped at a MUCH earlier stage. Sad....

Will both sides of the face be able to speak? Is there one brain? Which mouth gets to eat? Wow that's weird and sad :( I wish the baby the best in health and life!

I was wondering the same thing, about how much function each face has if any, mostly about the eyes, I wonder if she can see properly.

My guess is only one of the faces would be functional, one cant really tell from the video as shes sleeping at all times.

I found this other article, has a little more info on it but they misquoted the witness as saying it was a two headed baby and use some old two headed baby picture....

My primary concern about functionality would be: can she eat and swallow properly? The way the faces are positioned, I wonder if she even has one fully formed lower jawbone, let alone two. And what of her esophagus? Can food enter the digestive tract from either mouth? And if so, then what is to keep her from choking?

On the up side though, if both mouths worked, the mother could nurse her on both breasts at the same time, and cut feeding times in half!

But seriously, I hope the child is able to eat and process her food normally. She's gonna need every advantage she can get, considering all of the medical procedures she is facing in her future.

...The baby, Lali, apparently has an extremely rare condition known as craniofacial duplication, where a single head has two faces. Except for her ears, all of Lali's facial features are duplicated - she has two noses, two pairs of lips and two pairs of eyes.

    ****UPDATE*****

Remember baby Lali, the little girl from northern India who was born with two faces? Well, she's apparently doing fine and in really good health. And, like her fellow country-girl Lakshmi, the Indian girl born with two sets of arms and legs, Lali is being hailed as a reincarnation of a Hindu goddess.

So, here's the deal with Lali and her extremely rare condition:

    From Yahoo News:

The baby, Lali, apparently has an extremely rare condition known as craniofacial duplication, where a single head has two faces. Except for her ears, all of Lali's facial features are duplicated — she has two noses, two pairs of lips and two pairs of eyes. ... Lali's condition is often linked to serious health complications, but the doctor said she was doing well. "She is leading a normal life with no breathing difficulties," said Ali, adding that he saw no need for surgery.

She drinks milk from both mouths (!) and blinks all four of her eyes at the same time (!!!!!). I wonder how she'll talk ... will both mouths and tongues articulate the words? If she blinks at the same time, I'm guessing both mouths will smile at the same time too. Fascinating.

Neighbors are flocking to pay their respects to the little girl, who they worship as the return of the goddess of valor, Durga, a fiery deity traditionally depicted with three eyes and many arms.

Village elders want the government to build a temple in honor of the girl. And they're delighted by the fame Lali has brought to the village.

Well, I'm just glad she is being hailed as a gift, a goddess even, rather than an abomination. You never know what people are going to think or do even in the strangest of things. Because of their beliefs, this little one can lead a life non-threatened, and maybe even a semblance of normalcy surrounded by people who love her. This wouldn't be the case in most places. Be happy in your little part of the world baby Lali.

Wouldn't they know that by now with the way she cries? Just curious...

These articles are from April when Lali was about a month old - which was amazing for this condition. She died about a month later in the hospital of a heart attack though. Just hand me the killjoy award of the day, yeah?

Oh, thanks Castille. I meant to go back and check if there were more current updates....sad, though I knew should probably wouldn't live long.

    Rest in peace baby Lali.

India has a lot of "rare" cases of all kinds of birth defects and it is my opinion its because proper nutrition and vitamins are "rare" as well. A third of the world's poor comes from India along with the most cases of human trafficing and child prostitution. You'd think for the country who's ancestors developed algebra and math while Europeans were in the dark, would be able to get their numbers together now...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    That's true Morgana.
I also think a large percentage of the mutations may come from industrial pollution.

I don't think it has to do with lack of nutrition strictly speaking. Rather India is one of the most populous countries in the world. Therefore more babies equal more anomalies recorded. Plus given the tendency to deify these children they are more like to live and get notice than quietly killed by the parents so as not to attract attention. Make sense?

Thall shalt not suffer a witch to live.
Yet know, my master, God omnipotent,
Is mustering in his clouds on our behalf
Armies of pestilence; and they shall strike
Your children yet unborn and unbegot,
That lift your vassal hands against my head
And threat the glory of my precious crown.
