Daycare owner Russell Bauer played while his wife was away

A former daycare co-owner has been charged with allegedly sexually molesting two children who were in his care, according to an Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office arrest report.

Russell Bauer IV, 30, of 8667 Robinwood Drive in Milton, was arrested Friday. He was charged with sexual battery on a victim under the age of 12 and lewd or lascivious molestation on a victim under the age of 12.

Bauer and his wife lived at 420 Brown Place in Crestview from January to November of 2008 when the crimes are suspected to have happened. He said he would molest the children when his wife was away, his arrest report said.

"This was thoroughly investigated," Garrett said.

Bauer admitted to molesting a 5-year-old girl and a 6-year-old girl.

According to his arrest report, Bauer said he sat one girl on his lap while fondling her and grinding against her. He said, however, she didn't know what was going on because he would tickle and hug her at the same time.

Bauer also said he placed a blindfold on one girl and fondled her, the report said.

An inmate in the Okaloosa County Jail on child molestation charges killed himself Tuesday, jail officials said.

Russell Bauer IV, 30, jailed since last Friday, was found about 3:30 p.m. with a piece of a bedsheet tied around his neck, said county Corrections Director Larry Caskey.

Officers tried unsuccessfully to revive him, Caskey said.

On Tuesday, Caskey said Bauer was being held in a medical housing unit when officers found him face-down, with one end of a bedsheet tied around his neck and the other tied to a bedpost.

He was not under suicide watch but was scheduled for a doctor's appointment at the time, Caskey said.
