Jesus Christ. I will never understand how someone can harm a child, let alone their own child. She's a beautiful little girl. I hope she never has to be exposed to her evil egg donor again.

I actually came here to post this story. Rarely do I see something like this in my town, and especially not when it's someone that I actually know of. I haven't met this woman, but I have encountered her online numerous times. All three of her kids were born prematurely, and after the second, she was advised not to have another, because there was a very good chance of the baby being seriously premature and facing numerous health issues as a result. Well, what do you know, she got pregnant again, and Dakota was born at 24 or 25 weeks gestation. She blogged extensively about the plethora of problems facing the little girl, and it was honestly heartbreaking to read.
What really gets me is that this chick was always talking about what a great Christian she is, going on about God and church and such, and here she was poisoning her baby all along. What a fucking sicko! I must say, I always suspected that there was something off about her. She posted all over the internet, publicly, about her daughter's health problems, and even had a PayPal account set up for donations at one point. She was always very quick to defend her choice to bring another baby into the world, even though she knew full well that the baby had a 99.9% chance of having an extremely difficult life with tons of challenges to face. Frankly, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it were discovered that she was the one posting all the criticism of herself online under a troll account, just so she could cry to her friends and jump in to defend herself...lots of attention!!!
I'd bet on it that she got pregnant for the attention, and intentionally had the premature baby for the additional attention. I am still in shock that someone I recognize, and from my own city, did something so utterly vile! I read that they were considering charging her with attempted murder. Too bad they didn't keep that charge on the table; anyone who would do something like this deserves it.

In order for Dakota to have her surgery on Tuesday she has to have an abdominal ultrasound and another chest CT. Today we got her abdominal ultrasound out of the way and tomorrow should be her chest CT. The surgeons have been contacted and should come by tomorrow to talk with me. This is now the third time (or maybe fourth, I've lost count) that the doctors have put in a request to have them place a line and everytime they've either said "no way" or they've agreed and right before hand she's become septic again and the surgery has been cancelled. I am obviously a little reserved about showing excitement due to the past experiences.

How sad, its starting to look to me like her sole purpose of having this child was to milk it for all that it was worth.

A grand jury indicted her for using and exhibiting a deadly weapon to cause serious injury or death.
In one of the most disturbing cases of child abuse, investigators say McDonald admitted to rubbing feces into the toddler's feeding tube (IV line) on multiple occasions at the hospital.
All the while, the mother kept a daily blog of her daughter's illness and her attempts to recover. Austin police say every time McDonald's daughter started to improve, the child would get sick again.
Police say McDonald brought her daughter to the hospital on April 15 with a high fever and an infection caused by bacteria commonly found in feces.
Hospital staff became suspicious and installed a video surveillance camera in the victim's room. On May 31st, police say that camera captured the mother rubbing feces into her daughter's feeding tube.
Emily McDonald got a lot of attention according to a daily blog she maintained called the "McDonald Five". In it she describes her three year old's treatment and her two other children, ages 6 and 4.
Investigators wouldn't speculate on McDonald's mental state, but say she has never been diagnosed with a mental disorder. Her two other children are staying with their father's parents.
McDonald's bond is set at $100,000 dollars.

This child is in an excellent hospital, (Dells Children) one of the best for children in the nation. A friend of mine who is a nurse and works in the Pediatrics unit said, little Dakota is one of the sweetest children she ever had the pleasure of meeting. She's an itty bitty she said, so fragile.
It is so cruel and evil what this mother did to her little girl. The betrayal is a sacrilege to motherhood. I understand by what I heard on the news tonight that little Dakota is doing much better and being cared for by family.

Judge denies child visitation request by mother accused of putting feces in daughter's IV tube
State District Judge Julie Kocurek today denied a request by Emily Beth McDonald’s lawyers that the young mother be allowed supervised visits with her children while awaiting trial for injury to a child.

McDonald, who was released from jail on on a personal recognizance bond shortly after her June 2009 arrest, is accused of putting feces on her then-3-year-old daughter’s feeding tube last year. She faces up to life in prison if convicted.
Kocurek said she was following the recommendation of Child Protective Services. A CPS supervisor testified at a hearing this morning that she would not feel comfortable supervising visitation for someone charged with causing serious bodily injury to her child.
Kocurek called the allegations against McDonald “very, very serious” and said she would have never signed the personal bond releasing McDonald from jail pending trial. That bond was signed by state District Judge Charlie Baird.
“The recommendation of Child Protective Services is well founded, it is reasonable, and it will stay in place,” Kocurek said.
McDonald, 24, who was in court with more than a dozen friends and family members, cried after Kocurek’s ruling.
Her lawyers had argued that scientific research shows that McDonald’s children — who are now ages 4, 5 and 7 — would suffer long-term psychological harm from being separated from their mother. Two witnesses they called, including a counselor for the child and a forensic psychologist who reviewed their case, concurred.
Prosecutor Jackie Wood objected to any visitiation.
“It’s a bit of a fluke that we are here on a bond heaing in the first place,” Wood said. “A lot of people who try to murder their children actually wait for their trial in jail.“
Wood suggested that even supervised visits would not be sufficient to protect the children from McDonald, who is accused of trying to harm her daughter last year while the girl was in a hospital.
During the hearing, Wood noted that a surveillance video of McDonald rubbing feces on her daughter’s feeding tube last year, the girl was aggressively kicking at her mother.
“This is a situation where murder almost took place,” Wood said.
McDonald’s defense lawyer Bob Phillips responded by telling Kocurek that the state has no evidence showing McDonald intended to kill.
The girl was admitted to Dell Children’s Medical Center on April 15, 2009, with high fever and “a long history of chronic diarrhea,” according to an arrest affidavit. Blood tests came back positive for bacteria commonly found in feces.
Hospital officials set up a hidden camera in the girl’s room after she continued to have setbacks in her recovery and after they had to replace her intravenous lines several times because of infections or clots in the lines, the affidavit said.
On May 31, hospital staff reviewed the tape and saw McDonald smearing feces on the intravenous line, the affidavit said.
McDonald was indicted in August on one count of injury to a child, a first-degree felony punishable by up to life in prison. No trial date has been set, but lawyers several times referred to the possibility of an October trial.
Outside court, Phillips said he was disappointed. “She’s a troubled young woman. She needs treatment and counseling,” he said. “That’s what we are seeking for her.”

I have heard about this woman before. Apparently, she also like to go into parenting forums and attack mothers for their parenting choices. She said formula feeding was child abuse, ect. She was not a nice person. Had a big time Martyr complex. I would be willing to bet that she has gotten some interesting mail in jail from the people she used to bully on line.
I understand that defense attorneys have to see to it that their clients are treated fairly and such, but anyone who would suggest that this mother should see her kids because being separated from her is causing them psychological damage needs to have their head examined. Seeing this mother would only cause poor Dakota more fright, IMHO. That child wouldn't be kicking at her mother unless she sensed she was up to no good.

(For those who are not saavy to hipster mom lingo, 'crunchy' is the term used for the mothers that are stay at home, breast feeding, co sleeping, cloth diaper using, Only organic vegan baby food feeding, attachment parenting, mothers. When I was expecting little dude, I was accosted by several of them in parenting forums. They are some of the meanest, most judgmental people I have ever dealt with)
Uh-oh! I subscribe to many of those parenting techniques. . . . I consider my parenting ideals "attachment parenting". But my interpretation of attachment parenting is that you do what comes naturally and what you are comfortable with. So not everyone has to co-sleep, which is not a culturally accepted thing here (unlike in other countries), or use cloth diapers or do elimination training, or breast feed exclusively. But, then again, I do not consider myself a "crunchy" parent. I always interpreted that to mean a more organically inclined or "green" person.
I've found there is nothing like parenting to awaken people's judgmental sides. I never faced levels of disapproval like I did when my children were born. Happily, I was old enough when I had my first that I was able to tune it out and ignore it.

I think I know what you mean. Elimination training was getting a lot of air when I had my second child. So, I bought a book about it, gave it a try. But, I had no models in my life to observe or call on, so I was very hesitant and not comfortable leaving my baby diaperless all the time. I mean, in the car, around stores and other public places? At night? No. So it was more of a few hours in the daytime when we were together in the apartment and when I was able to watch him closely. It was pretty unsuccessful. If he was giving cues, I wasn't getting them, and vice versa. So I gave up.
He also never learned to sign, but it turned out that was because he was very delayed in communicating at all. His older sister, though, she did pick up some sign and dropped it as soon as she could get words to form in her mouth.
Most of the disapproval I was unable to ignore came from my MIL. I think the problem was hugely generational. Her generation had no pampers (or effectively didn't, since she claims they were there for travel but too expensive for regular use), and were all into bottle feeding exclusively. She claimed her babies didn't cry (my first was colicky). She had them eating solid food at 6 months (eggs at 3 -- no wonder DH is allergic to eggs). Potty trained at 1 year. Yeah, sure. Bottles and diapers do create a huge desire to get past them, but I believe some of her memory is a bit idealized, too. She was a big fan of using a ruler to teach babies to keep their hands off, and spanking for enforcement of potty usage.
Well, I tried breastfeeding, but my son didn't digest my milk correctly. He got very constipated. But he went like clockwork on regular old similac. My husband has night terrors, so co sleeping was out of the question. He slept in a bassinet in our room for the first three months, though. I made his baby food, but it wasn't all organic. I wasn't one of those parents that never set him down, but I did carry him around in a sling when went places instead of the carseat carrier, mostly because I was terrified that he would get hurt in the carrier. I just didn't have the patience for cloth diapers. My mother kept my baby brother in those, and I was the only one at home that cared to keep him clean, so I have paid my cloth diaper dues. So the judgment never really got to me too much.
Although, I must add, I am blessed with an awesome MIL that doesn't offer tips unless I ask for them, and makes sure to tell both of us that we are doing a splendid job. I love that woman.
i so would have been a crunchy mom if i had the dough. organic food is costly, as well as staying at home.
