STATESVILLE, N.C. -- Police in Iredell County said when they arrested a man on DWI charges, they discovered he had left his 1-year-old son home alone.
Bradley Johnson crashed his SUV in Statesville Wednesday, and responding officers arrested him.
Johnson is now charged with misdemeanor child endangerment in addition to the DUI charge.
The boy’s mother, Nicole, was shocked when she found out what Johnson had allegedly done.
Eyewitness News reporter Dave Faraday asked Johnson if he was aware leaving his son home alone in his playpen was wrong.
“I don’t know. If he would have been with me he probably would have been hurt because I flipped my truck,” Johnson said.
Deputies said the child was home alone for two hours. DHS has now stepped in, stopping Bradley from seeing his son.
Faraday asked investigators why the charge was only misdemeanor child abuse, and they said it was because the little boy was not in any immediate danger, but that they will look at the situation further.
