A sex offender
tracked by an electronic ankle bracelet is accused of trying to have sex with a 12 year-old Memphis girl and her sister.
The girls tell police 29 year-old
Eddy Barreras tried to get them into his car on Friday, May 29, 2009 near their home in Nutbush. The girls say they were outside riding bikes when Barreras pulled up beside them.
"
He kept saying get in his car and I told my sister to run and get in the house so we could confront my momma with it. We ran across this yard trying to hurry up so he wouldn't do anything to us," says Tiara Johnson.
The girls then
jumped in the car with their mom and chased Barreras and wrote down his tag number. When police pulled Barreras over later that day, they say
they found a knife under the driver’s side floor mat and
two unused condoms, one on the passenger seat and one in the glove box.
"I was shocked because he would have probably killed us and raped us. I was so scared,” says Johnson.
According to Shelby County Court records, Eddy Barreras was arrested in June 2005 for rape. In March and April 2008, police say Barreras approached three different teenage girls near Overton High School. Each time, police say he drove by while exposing himself and masturbating.
When Barreras was booked on these charges, he was again arrested in jail for indecent exposure. A report shows Barreras asked to go to the nursing station because his leg hurt. Police say
Barreras started masturbating in front of the nurse,
and said, “I am a freak, are you a freak?"
Barreras’ bail is set at half a million dollars. Barreras has also been charged with drug possession with intent to sell in 1999, 2002 and 2003. In 2000, he was arrested for vandalism and aggravated robbery.
