An 8 month old Widefield baby has died as a result of child abuse. Authorities say the baby boy's grandfather is responsible.

The case has unfolded over the course of this week--a medical call was received regarding the baby, Isiah Wilson, on Monday. El Paso County Sheriff's deputies say the baby, and his mom, were in town visiting Allmon at his home on Albion Drive in Widefield. She told authorities she left Isiah with his grandfather for just a little while. That is apparently when the baby was hurt.

The baby's grandfather, Willie Allmon, 51, was arrested and charged with child abuse. He was released on $25,000 bond.

Isiah died on Tuesday. The results of an autopsy, released Thursday morning, confirmed the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head. Allmon is now charged with First Degree Murder. He has an extensive arrest record, including domestic violence.

According to Sheriff's Department Spokeswoman Lt. Lari Sevene, Allmon is a registered sex offender.

Allmon is being held without bond at the Criminal Justice Center.

We spoke several neighbors, who said they didn't know Allmon. They say he just moved in a couple of weeks ago. Amber Summers lives 2 doors down. "It's really scary," she says. "I don't know them, but it really worries you that you're in such a nice neighborhood, and something horrible like this happens next door."

You know, as parents, we like to believe that our child will be safe and protected with our family. We fear everybody - strangers, babysitters, day care employees, etc. It's not often we think our own flesh and blood would be capable of doing something like this. (OK, maybe we here at DD do, but the average person never considers it without very good reason.) What a horrible thing to have happened to this poor baby. After reading about his past I am more upset about the mom, his own daughter leaving that baby with him. I have no doughts at all that Willie had abused her in the past. Cause thats the way this piece of low life shit rolls.

In 1998, Allmon was arrested on suspicion of aggravated incest and sexual assault. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor sex offense. No other details were available, but according to the sex offender registry, he fondled a child.

The same year, Allmon's then-wife Monique Allmon petitioned the courts for protection from him, claiming that he choked and threatened her and held her against her will. She said their final break came in April of 1998 when he warned her he had a gun close by and would use it on anyone who got in his way. She wrote in court documents that he told her, "As long as my name is Allmon, I belong to him."

A female relative was granted a permanent restraining order against Allmon in 2002 after accusing him of sexually abusing her.

While being questioned about Isiah's injuries, Allmon gave deputies two different accounts, an arrest affidavit shows.

He initially claimed he left Isiah on his bed when he went to use the bathroom. He heard a thud. On the floor was Isiah, with a dirty diaper. Allmon claimed he passed out as he knelt down to change the diaper.

He claimed he awoke on top of the infant. Isiah was gurgling, and his eyes rolled back in his head. Later, Allmon changed his story.

He told deputies he accidentally banged Isiah's head on the kitchen counter and dropped the child while attempting CPR. He denied raping his grandchild.

Allmon initially was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of felony child abuse and was released after posting a $25,000 bond.

Allmon was arrested again Thursday night after the child died and an arrest warrant accusing him of first-degree murder was issued.

I once asked a woman who had been molested by her father and had a child by him why she had left that child with him. She looked at me and said she didn't think he would do it to the child!

A jury of nine-men and three women took about 9½ hours over two days to find Willie B. Allmon guilty on all charges, including first and second degree murder and sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.

Allmon, a 52-year-old registered sex offender, will face a mandatory punishment of life in prison without parole when 4th Judicial District Judge Barney Iuppa sentences him on Dec. 2 for killing Isiah Melik Wilson.

While Allmon showed no emotion as Iuppa read the jury’s verdict, the child’s mother Felicia Allmon and her mother both bent over in their front row seats and began to weep.

Felicia Allmon’s disagreements with her mother led her to stay at her father’s house in May 2009 after she and her father had been estranged for several years. On the morning of May 18, 2009, she left Isiah in his grandfather’s care. An hour later, he called to say the boy wasn’t breathing.

Doctors later determined that Isiah’s skull had been shattered and that he had been sexually assaulted. The child died the next day.

Jury foreman Zach Blea said the jury agreed to convict Allmon on the murder counts within 2 hours after the trial ended. It took them longer to reach consensus on the sex assault charge.

Blea said the jurors screened out the turmoil and drama of the Allmons family life and focused instead on the medical testimony.

“It really came down to the injuries and how they occurred,” he said.

The verdict came after the jury heard nine days of often graphic and emotional testimony.
