England safe sex ad shocks viewers

LEICESTER, England - A shocking ad warning teens against premarital sex has some fighting back against the government agency that produced it.

The graphic video shows a teenaged girl giving birth on a school playground while dozens of students gather around her shouting.

An official with the British National Health Service told the BBC, "We know this film is hard-hitting, but so are the numbers of under-18s getting pregnant in Leicester."

Tim Rideout of Leicester City's NHS says traditional leaflets and posters are not doing the job.
    the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frHOZ...layer_embedded
"Mexican Americans don't like to just get into gang fights,
they like flowers and music and white girls named Debbie too."

i didnt think it was that bad. But i can def. see where some parents might freak out... but then again they would probably freak out more if they did find out their son/daughter was going to become a teenage parent.

I think they have a good marketing scheme tho, its all about shock value now-a-days. Even if people don't agree with the commercial. They will still watch it, just to see how shocking it really is.

    Not what you expected?

Being a teenage parent might not be either!
I think that caption at the end of the video kind of sums it up.

    Go Brits!

You know, I don't think the British government does much right, these days, but this had redeemed them a sliver. Bigger props if they stick to their guns.

Shock sinks in. This isn't going to scar anyone (unlike the MADD campaigns that leave school kids to believe one of their classmates died until an assembly at the end of the day telling them it was a hoax), but it may be dramatic enough to have an impact, and it speaks to teens in their language with the whole amateur videographer/YouTube vibe.

There's really nothing good about teenage motherhood. If we can shock kids away from that, much like vulgar anti-smoking ads have done so in the States, I'm all for it.
"Now that ceaseless exposure has calloused us to the lewd and the vulgar, it is instructive to see what still seems wicked to us. What still slaps the clammy flab of our submissive consciousness hard enough to get our attention?"

I detest those ads. The first two were fine, now I feel like I'm getting nagged by the state everyday.

I have an urge to light up everytime I see one of those petulant whiny, nagging ads.

    Pheh!
In a little while you will be alone in shoreless space, to wander its limitless solitudes without friend or comrade forever--for you will remain a thought, the only existent thought, and by your nature inextinguishable, indestructible.
