SourceBOYNE CITY — Police have arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with the early-morning throat-slashing assault of a 9-year-girl in her home.
Charlevoix County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Shaynee Fanara said county undersheriff Chuck Vondra and Boyne City police officer Dan Mercer arrested the boy today, Friday.
Fanara authorized charges of assault with intent to commit murder and first degree home invasion against the youth in connection with an incident that took place at about 4:20 a.m. on April 26 at a home on Michigan Street in Boyne City. The charges are punishable by up to life in prison and 20 years in prison respectively. The boy, who Fanara would not identify, is currently in secured detention and is charged in probate court. She hopes to decide by Monday if she will seek to have the boy charged as an adult.
On the morning of the incident police and ambulance crews were called the home of Nelson and Missy Duncan when Missy Duncan called 9-1-1 saying she had just been awakened by her 9-year-old daughter who was saying someone had hurt her.
