50-year-old Michael Page had no idea who pulled into his driveway behind him last night when he got home. “I was thinking I may die, but I'm not gonna die without a fight.”
Volusia County Sheriffs Office says Page ran into 22-year-old Cordera Bracy. “A gold Nissan pulled into my driveway. Someone got out of the Nissan and quickly walked up to my drivers window holding what appeared to be a 9mm automatic handgun telling me
give me the money, give me the money,” Page explained.
As he agreed, Page says he fumbled for the pepper spray in the console of his car, but he couldn’t find it.
The suspect stuck the gun in the window and Page grabbed it, but he lost his grip. “They cocked the weapon back and when they cocked the weapon back I knew I had to do something now or that's it.”
He says the weapon sounded weird like a pellet or BB gun when Bracy cocked it, so he reacted. “I kicked open my car door quickly stepped out and grabbed my flashlight I carry on my security job, stepped out of the car and hit the suspect with it, threw the flashlight at them, they backed up a few more feet cause I struck them.”
Page chased Bracy across the street into a neighbor's yard and knocked her to the ground.”I realized it was a plastic weapon when I struck the suspect a couple of times on their head and the weapon shattered, he explained. At that point the suspect pulled she had something over her face trying to hide their identity and she said sir I'm a girl, sir I'm a girl and tried to get up again and I persuaded her to stay down I was able to call 9-1-1.”
Page says to him this outcome was a victory for the working person. “I'm glad she targeted me and perhaps not someone else, cause now she's off the streets and she won’t be doing this to your mother, sister brother father anybody else for a long, long time.”
Meanwhile, Bracy is behind bars charged with armed robbery and crack cocaine possession.
