A Coshocton man has been jailed in connection with the death of his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter.

Bail was set at $750,000 for Aaron L. Holdworth, 27, on a felony charge of endangering children.

Police were called to Coshocton County Memorial Hospital Tuesday on a report of a possible shaken baby.

The child, Reina Patterson, was taken to Akron Children's Hospital, where she died yesterday afternoon.

Medical personnel who performed emergency surgery in Akron told police that Reina had been strangled and suffered blunt-force trauma.

Assistant Coshocton County Prosecutor Jason Given said Holdworth is scheduled for a preliminary hearing next week and could be indicted on additional charges relating to Reina's death.

Holdsworth told the detective in an interview Tuesday before his arrest in Akron that he had picked the child up two or three times and shaken her, then threw her back into a play pen.

The affidavit also states the mother, Anita Deeds, told the detective she had been at work until about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. When she arrived home, Reina was standing in the play pen. Deeds said she took the child from the play pen, put her in a recliner and left the room. When Deeds returned, her daughter was on the floor and unresponsive.

Deeds and Holdsworth, who is Deeds' live-in boyfriend, then took Reina to Coshocton Hospital, and emergency room personnel notified the sheriff's office.

Children's Services is monitoring Deeds' two other children, a 9-year-old and 6-year-old.

"We have made sure the two other children are in a safe environment and will be filing a complaint in juvenile court," said Terry Miller, director of Coshocton County Job and Family Services.

Holdsworth had a felony theft charge in Tuscarawas County closed in 2000 and misdemeanor criminal damaging and aggravated menacing charges in Coshocton Municipal Court in 2001.

We don't know that that is exactly the way it happened. They make it sound like she picked the kid up and just plopped her into the recliner. She may have kissed her, cuddled her, talked to her or more before/while setting her down and then gone off to take of her coat, get a thermometer, a glass off water, who knows... they just didn't print it in the article (just like the didn't exactly say there was no interaction, either).

And maybe the child was sick of the playpen and crying, so mom took her out comforted her, and then put her into the recliner to sit and watch cartoons.

There's any number of reasonable scenarios that could explain this behavior.

I can't tell if that baby's a boy or a girl. The striped hat looks kinda pink in one of the pictures, but I think it's just the lighting - most of the hospital hats are striped blue and pink to be non-gender-specific.

And since we know "Asshole" has a son, and some of her other pictures appear to be of a young boy, it's entirely possible that Terri is HIS mom, not Reina's grandmother.

Little Reina laid to rest and remembered....

On Friday, her family had to make her funeral arrangements, as they remember the little girl who loved everyone and was taken from them on Wednesday.

"Reina was a very charismatic little girl," said her father, Jarrod Patterson. "There was no way you could be around her and not laugh."

"She pretty much loved everybody," Patterson said. "She was always being a silly girl and loved to have her picture taken. If you met her, you would never forget her."

Patterson said his daughter loved to watch the Barbie program on television and she liked being lifted up and turned upside down.

When doctors pronounced the child clinically dead, Patterson said he and her mother, Anita Deeds, made a decision to donate her organs.

"Because of that three other lives have been saved," he said.

Someone got Reina's heart, kidneys and liver, and her lungs were donated to a research clinic, he said.

The video is heartbreaking. The father loved his baby girl very much. I only wish he would have not ever allowed his daughter to be alone with this fucker. I guess, its hard to say. People move on with their lives, new people....still, this fucker had a past that should have brought up a red flag. Baby Reina celebrated her 2nd birthday on May, 28th. She will no longer see another birthday, and all that life might have held for her. Such sweet looking baby girl, she reminds me so much of my sister as a baby. What a treasure, lost to violence, heavies my heart.

Aaron Holdsworth, 28, has been held in the Coshocton Justice Center on an $850,000 bond since the June death of Reina Patterson.

He pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor in a separate case during Thursday's proceedings in Coshocton County Common Pleas Court.

Prosecuting Attorney Bob Batchelor told Judge Richard Evans the pleas were the result of negotiations with Holdsworth's attorney, Public Defender Jeffrey Mullen, and the state had agreed to accept an Alford plea.

An Alford plea can be accepted by a judge from a defendant who wishes to plead guilty but is still protesting his innocence.

Part of the negotiations included the state recommending a two-year sentence on count one and a three-year sentence on count two but take no position on whether they would be served consecutively or concurrently, Batchelor said.

In August, Evans dismissed a motion by Mullen to suppress statements Holdsworth made to Coshocton County deputies after he'd been assaulted by the mother of the 14-year-old female victim. Evans had set a trial date for Nov. 12.

A man pleaded guilty on Tuesday to murder in connection with the death of a 2-year-old girl.

Aaron Holdsworth, 28, was sentenced to 15-years-to-life in prison, 10TV's Patrick Bell reported.

Holdsworth beat and strangled Reina Patterson in June. He was the boyfriend of Patterson's mother, Bell reported.

Patterson's father, Jarrod Patterson said that in June, hospital staff kept the little girl alive long enough for her organs to be donated to two other children.

"When it's my time to leave this world, I won't be scared because I will get to hear her say 'Dad, Dad, Dad' again like I used to all the time," Jarrod Patterson said. "Now she's God's playmate. Reina has no more hurt, no more pain, only joy and happiness."

The Patterson family said they were satisfied with the sentence, but nothing will bring their little girl back, Bell reported.

"Today is not about Aaron Holdsworth, it's not about anybody in this courtroom, it's about justice for my daughter, Reina," Jarrod Patterson said. "She'll never be forgotten. Not by anybody who has ever met her."

Holdsworth was already serving a three-year prison sentence for an unrelated crime. He will not be eligible for parole until 2028.

I hope he never gets out. I have a niece who has the same name (different spelling, though), and she was abused, too. Fortunately, though, my sister got her away from her husband before he could inflict serious damage on my niece, and my sister got beaten more often than she told anyone for protecting her daughter. I only wish she'd pressed charges against him instead of just divorcing him and getting all she could in child support for their kids together.

But hey, maybe he'll get beaten and strangled in prison, and maybe the guards will just give him a wet paper towel to wipe off the blood.

Why wasn't the mother charged?

At least Reina's tragedy did some good for others, thanks to her organs being donated. It also got one more child-abusing dirtbag off of the street, God willing for life. I pray that she's in Heaven right now, hanging out with all of the other innocents who were taken from us too soon.

Anita deeds was not charged for some aweful lame excuse....They dont think she had any involvement and she is slow...WOW so they gave her other two kids back because she is SLOW??????
