Des Moines police say a man arrested on a drunken driving charge was able to slip his handcuffs from behind his back to the front, attack an officer and urinate in the police van en route to the Polk County Jail.

Ben Caleb Stodden, 25, of Des Moines, also was charged with assault on a police officer causing injury.

Stodden is accused of biting Officer Christopher Hudrick on the left thumb, drawing blood. He also is accused of kicking the officer on the inner thighs.

Stodden was arrested about 1 a.m., Sunday in the 4700 block of Southwest Ninth Street following two accidents.

Police said in a report: "He was extremely uncooperative."
