Authorities have released the name of a woman fatally injured while teaching her 13-year-old son how to park a vehicle.
According to the Spartanburg County Coronerís Office, Janie Mae Hampton, 40, of 201 Powell Mill Road, was struck by her own vehicle Monday evening while instructing her juvenile son how to park. She was transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Just after 8:30 p.m., Spartanburg Public Safety officers responded to Crown Pointe Apartments to investigate the collision. According to preliminary investigation results, officers think Hampton exited the vehicle her son was driving while it was still in motion, and she became pinned between that vehicle and another parked vehicle.
The vehicle her son was driving continued in reverse, striking one of the buildings in the apartment complex.
The Public Safety Department does not anticipate filing any charges in the incident.
