MANATEE — A man was arrested and charged with child neglect and abuse after he shook his daughter, causing a brain hemorrhage, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.
Zenaido Baltazar, 28, was watching his 4-year-old son and 4-month-old daughter at their home Friday in the 1400 block of 17th Avenue West while his wife was at work, the report said.
The girl was crying in her crib and Baltazar picked her up and shook her for about 30 seconds until she went limp and her eyes became fixed and dilated, according to the report.
He called his wife and she took the baby to All Children’s Hospital in Tampa the next day, the report said.
Baltazar told the investigators he did not call 911 because he did not want to go to jail.
He was released from the Manatee County jail on $8,000 bond.
