This man has a big heart. I don't know what I'd do if i were in his shoes, but I guess kudos to him.
The accident details are at the end of the article.A former Texas Health Fort Worth hospital nurse has been sentenced to 10 years probation for driving her sports utility vehicle while intoxicated through barricades and running over a city employee as he worked on a water project last year on an Airport Freeway service road.
Rudy Ramos, who was awarded the Bedford Employee Commitment Award in 2007, survived, but he was severly injured, suffering a shattered pelvis, torn ligaments, damaged cartilage and a dislocated knee. He also had severe lacerations to his head and face.
Lisa Cleveland also hit a second public works employee and continued through the construction site until she stopped in the parking lot of a nearby bar.
In a plea agreement reached with prosecutors, Cleveland, 42, of Bedford, pleaded guilty on May 15 to intoxication assault and failure to stop and render aid in a Fort Worth courtroom. According to police reports, Cleveland had a blood alcohol level of 0.22. The legal limit for driving in Texas is 0.08.
Cleveland could not reached for comment on Wednesday.
"The only reason I offered probation was because he (Ramos) didnít want to see her go to prison," Tarrant County Assistant District Attorney Bruce Fyfe said Wednesday.
Cleveland faced a maximum of 10 years in prison on the intoxication assault charge and five years on the other charge.
