Amber Alert: Manuel Bolanos, age 10 mos, taken from mother's car in Dallas TX

DALLAS -- Police are looking for a man who rammed a woman’s vehicle, smashed the vehicle’s windows and then reached in and took a 10-month-old boy Wednesday.

Officers responded to a kidnapping in progress call about 11:15 a.m. at Regal Row and Stemmons Freeway, police said in a news release.

After their arrival, officers spoke to an 18-year-old woman who said she had just broken up with her boyfriend or common-law husband. She said she took their 10-month-old son and left their home in Lewisville. The child’s father, Manuel Patricio Bolanos, 27, is suspected of following the mother down Interstate 35E until she exited Regal Row, the news release said.

The mother and child were at the stoplight when Bolanos rammed their vehicle, got out of his car -- a 1999 silver or gray Chrysler Concord -- and began smashing the driver’s window of the mother’s car.

Bolanos then went around to the passenger side and smashed the rear passenger window, the release said.

As the light turned green, the woman was able to drive into a parking lot. The suspect boxed her car in, grabbed the child from his car seat, and pulled him through the broken window.

The child may have been cut by the broken window, police said.

Bolanos put the child in his car and drove away, police said. Bolanos is described as being 6 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing approximately 200 pounds.

The child is described as light-skinned with red hair. He was wearing a blue shirt and black windbreaker pants.

Bolanos is wanted on warrants out of Waco and his vehicle carries Texas license plate number 375-VJC.

The driver of the Pontiac tried to escape, fleeing southbound on I-35 and exiting at Regal Row. But Bolanos was able to box in the Pontiac at a stoplight, where he jumped from his car and smashed the driver's side window, police said. He then ran to the passenger side of the car and broke out the rear passenger window, police said.

The Pontiac's driver was able to get clear of Bolanos' vehicle and pulled into a parking lot to ask for help. But Bolanos pulled into the parking lot, ran to the Pontiac's passenger side and dragged the infant out through the broken rear window, possibly cutting the baby's head on the jagged glass. He then threw the baby into the front seat of his vehicle before fleeing.

According to police, Bolanos has contacted the mother of the child and has said that he would seek medical help for the baby but police have had no indication that he has taken the child to any area hospitals.

Lewisville police also told authorities in Dallas that they had checked the couple's home in Lewisville and did not find him. They also told Dallas officials that they had previously dealt with Bolanos.

Bolanos is described as a light-skinned black or hispanic male, about 6 foot 7 inches and weighing about 200 pounds. He is also wanted on arrest warrants from Waco. The nature of those warrants was not released. His car is bearing Texas license plate, 375VJC.

The child is light-skinned, has red hair and was wearing a blue shirt and black windbreaker pants.

I hope this child is found okay. Other than what he received on his head.

According to police, he called the mother and said he was going to kill himself and the child, also named Manuel. The 18-year-old mother also told police that she had recently broken up with the child's father.

Oh no, please have a happier ending than it's looking now.

This is not far from me. He could be anywhere in the area. OMG, this just so awful, that poor baby getting caught in adult bullshit.....I fear for his life. I hope they find him soon and alive....and well.
I wished they'd released the baby's name.

Sherry Crawford, the child’s grandmother, said her daughter had been with him about two and half years and had been scared to leave him, but she had finally made the decision to go. “She’s been in an abusive relationship,” she said. “He found out that she was leaving.”

They were on their way to Waco, where the family resides, when he caught up with them this morning in his they traveled along Interstate 35E in a black Pontiac. “He ran us off the highway,” she said.

According to police, Manuel Patricio Bolanos, was driving his 1999 silver or gray Chrysler Concord, when he then abruptly cut ahead of the car, causing a rear-end collision.

Dallas police say they found the boy, Manuel Patricio Bolanos, Jr., and his father, 27-year-old Manuel Patricio Bolanos. The boy's father was immediately arrested and taken to jail.

I was hoping to find out if the baby was hurt during his abduction but nothing has been reported....I hope he's doing well. Glad he was found...this really nice to read after my trying day.

The baby was brought to Children's Medical Hospital to be check out as a precaution.

The boy's father was immediately arrested and taken to jail, facing a charge of injury to a child.

"We are relieved and happy that he has been found," the boy's mother said.

Witnesses say police swarmed an East Dallas apartment around 7 p.m. Inside they found the boy after an eight-hour search that prompted an Amber Alert.

The alert was issued Wednesday morning after police received a call from an 18-year-old woman who said her boyfriend had taken their son.

According to police, the woman had just broken up with Bolanos. She said she took their son and left their home in Lewisville, but that Bolanos followed her down I-35.

When she stopped at a light, she said, Bolanos rammed the back of her car, jumped out and started smashing the car's windows.

Bolanos grabbed the baby through a broken window, put the child in his own car and drove away.

The boy's arms were bleeding from minor injuries he received from being pulled through the broken window.

Police are also questioning the father's sister, who may have been alone watching the baby while the Amber Alert was active.

I freely admit that I was afraid to read this one. I'm glad I did though, it's such a relief that this little guy is safe and going home where he belongs.
