NORTH YARMOUTH (NEWS CENTER) -- A 25 year-old woman who worked at the Caring Place Daycare facility in North Yarmouth is charged with assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Meggan Lyn Loker allegedly assaulted a 6-month-old boy at the facility on May 19.
Another staff member discovered what Captain Don Goulet of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department tells us were visible injuries to the baby boy. The baby's mother says he had three bruises on his chest, in the shape of fingers.
Dayc are Director Elizabeth Leo immediately notified the child's parents, who called the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office. The infant's mother tells NEWS CENTER that she feels the day care center handled the situation well, but she wants to be sure Loker does not do this again at any other child care facility.
The mother brought her children back to Caring Place the next day.
Captain Goulet says the child suffered no broken bones, and deputies could find no evidence of any other instances of abuse.
Loker was arrested. Her employment has been terminated and DHHS has been notified.
Loker is now out on $5,000 unsecured bail. She is due in court on July 15.
