Thomas Jones sexually assaulted a 9-year-old girl

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- A 55-year-old Spartanburg County man has been charged with sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl.

According to warrants, Thomas Allen Jones, is charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor under 11 years old.

The warrant says that between January 2007 and January 2008, Jones engaged in sexual battery with the girl.

An incident report said that the 9-year-old victim told investigators of the abuse when she was placed in foster care in January of this year.

Both Jones and the girl's mother tested positive for cocaine and other drugs after the child was placed in protective custody by the Department of Social Services.

According to a story in the Spartanburg Herald-Journal, Jones was acquitted of aggravated assault charges on April 1.

He was found not guilty by jurors of criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and assault and battery of high and aggravated nature.

The charges stemmed from accusations that he pistol whipped his estranged wife and a 7-year-old girl in April 2007.

Jones was the president of the Spartanburg County chapter of the NAACP from 2002 until 2005.

so strange... that hair is certainly unique... how do you go from president of NAACP chapter to a cracked out molester with Toni Tenille hair in 4 years? regardless of your personal opinion of said organization, if only for PR reasons, i would think that a chapter officer would be a functional, generally nonviolent citizen.

... that last sentence is tacked on almost like an afterthought.
