Four middle school students are accused of attempting to sexually assault a girl in a bathroom at Judge Frank Berry Middle School, Mesquite police said.

Mesquite police said the April 6 incident took place at the school at 2675 Bear Drive. Police did not know whether the teens remained in custody and declined to release additional details, including the ages of the suspects and the girl.

Ian Halperin, a spokesman for the Mesquite Independent School District told KTVT-TV that the incident took place after school.

KTVT-TV said the principal Sandra Bibb sent in April a letter to parents that read: "This was an isolated incident, and we do not believe there is any cause to believe that students are at risk now or in the future.

"I can confirm that an incident involving students did occur after school at a time when students and most staff members would usually be out of the building; however, due to the privacy rights of those students involved, as well as legal limitations, I am unable to discuss the nature of the incident."
