MANITOWOC — A 33-year-old Valders man charged with felony child abuse made his initial appearance Monday before the Manitowoc County Circuit Court.
Billy J. Wohlgemuth was released from jail on $250 bail April 28. He is to have no contact with the alleged victim, unless provided by the Department of Human Services.
According to the criminal complaint:
- A woman reported to the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department that her son needed three staples to close a head wound given to him April 25 while staying at Wohlgemuth’s house.
- Wohlgemuth was upset after an 8-year-old boy refused to eat a meal. Wohlgemuth picked up and swung the boy, crashing the child into a wall.
- Wohlgemuth admitted his actions to a sheriff’s detective April 27. He told the detective he was sorry and knew he should not have done it.
Wohlgemuth is schedule for a preliminary hearing at 2:30 p.m. May 29.
Wohlgemuth is a convicted felon. He was sentenced to jail on a Dec. 15, 1998, Buffalo County substantial battery offense, according to online court records.
