Sharon Robertson 4 yr. old boy was found wandering the streets

The mother of a 4-year-old boy found wandering in the street near his South Side home early Saturday has been charged with child endangerment, police said.

The boy — who cannot speak — was found wandering in the street in the 9100 block of South Drexel Avenue about 8 a.m., according to police News Affairs. Police initially took the boy to a police station and later to University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital for observation.

Police at 1 p.m. said the boy's mother has been located.

The mother, 35-year-old Sharon Robertson, of the 9100 block of South Drexel Avenue, was charged Saturday evening with one count of endangering the life and health of a child, a misdemeanor charge, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.

Robertson is scheduled to appear in Domestic Violence Court, 555 W. Harrison St., on June 8, Mirabelli said.

It doesn't say where the mother was or had been and that was what a 5 hour span I'm curious as to why she hadn't called the police looking for her son or where she was.

The mother of a 4-year-old boy who was found wandering alone on a South Side street early Saturday morning has been charged with one count of endangering a child.

The boy and another minor silbling were placed in the care of the Department of Children and Family Services.

Police responding to a call of a small child walking alone near Drexel Avenue and 92nd Street -- just 30 or 40 yards from his home -- found the boy at about 8 a.m. and took him to the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital for observation.

About five hours later, after police located the boy's family, the mother and child were reunited for only a brief time before the 34-year-old woman was taken into custody by police.

"I don't know how he got out of the house?" CBS2 quoted the child's brother, Dandre Robinson, as saying.

Robinson said he noticed the child missing soon after waking up.

"We just got up. So we don't know how he left out of the house," Robinson said.

The boy's mother was upset that no one had called her prior to police officers' arrival at the home at 1 p.m.
