A Peoria Heights man could face up to 30 years in prison after being charged Friday with sexually assaulting a boy who is now 12 years old for a six-year period.
John W. Yancy, 42, of 3915 N. Illinois appeared in Peoria County Circuit Court on charges of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and aggravated criminal sexual abuse. His bond was set at $150,000, and a June 11 preliminary hearing was ordered.
Assistant State's Attorney Steve Pattelli said Peoria Heights police learned of the alleged abuse earlier this year when Yancy was arrested for allegedly hitting the child. The child told them of the alleged abuse, which began in 2003 and ended in March, the prosecutor said in open court.
