A Georgia man pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of aggravated domestic assault and cruelty to a child for allegedly fracturing his 5-week-old son's skull, likely causing permanent injuries, prosecutors said

Matthew Richard, 25, was jailed lacking $50,000 bail.

According to court papers, a Fletcher Allen Health Care doctor told investigators May 11 Richards' son, also named Matthew Richard, born April 3, had four skull fractures and broken ribs that had started to heal. The doctor said in her opinion the injuries were the result of severe child abuse.

Police interviewed Richard, who said he fell down a flight of stairs May 9 at his home while holding his son. The son bumped his head during the fall, Richard said, according to court papers.

Richard's wife, Christy, said her husband came to the room where she'd been sleeping at 9:30 a.m. that day and said he'd just fallen down the stairs and injured the couple's son. Christy Richard said she called her family physician, who advised them to head straight to the hospital emergency room, which they did, according to court papers.

In a subsequent interview with police, Matthew Richard admitted he had become frustrated with the baby that morning, squeezed the child's chest and threw him down onto a coffee table, according to court papers.

Police said doctors at Fletcher Allen told them the baby might have serious long-term neurological problems, including seizures. The doctors said the infant already is suffering seizures as a result of the alleged abuse

four skull fractures and broken ribs
    $50,000 bail
I'd say this was a serious offense. Why only 15 years? Why only $50,000 bail? This child suffered 4 skull fractures causing seizures. (and may be permanently damaged for life) 50 grand is nothing. Neither is 15 years.

And as for his Myspace picture...time to lop that pecker off.

His myspace is disgusting. he thinks he's impressive. I rather think he'd impress me most if he were to rot in prison. That pecker might be the only thing that will keep him alive in prison, he better learn how to protect it too, as those who learn what he's done to get in there won't be so kind. Baby beaters/killers aren't too popular in prison either.

Baby Matthew is probably broken for life. At 5 weeks old and broken. So sorry little one. If there is to be justices this bastard should serve life in prison for destroying his sons life. Nothing can really put things just, but life in prison would even it out a bit. Fucker loses his life, as Matthew is subject to a life that is far less then he deserved.

Heal little Matthew completely. I pray this is so.

Perfect profile pic for him. He's a dick, alright.

I'm just sick about the permanent injuries he's caused that infant. The 15 years he faces are not nearly enough.

    Heal completely little one.

Matthew Richard’s mother, Diane, of Isle La Motte, said she does not know where her 26-year-old son is, but that she heard he and his wife, Cristy, are staying in a tent in a wooded area.[/B]

The child, said Richard, appears to have survived the ordeal and is progressing normally.

Diane said Matthew’s father has heard from him since he failed to report to prison on April 26 for throwing his son down on a coffee table last year.

Judge Greg Rainville sentenced Matthew Richard to 18 months to six years in prison.
“He’s going to be in more trouble than he was before,” Diane Richard said Wednesday, speaking of Matthew during an interview with the Messenger.

Richard has two warrants out for his arrest: one for failure to report to prison, and one for a failure to appear in court earlier this week for an arraignment on petit larceny and drug charges.

She said the boy, now about a year old, is walking, talking and headed toward a normal life. Dr. Joe Nasca, the child’s pediatrician, said the boy was healing well and that he could be weaned from his anti-seizure medication, according to Diane Richard.

“That baby is beautiful,” she said. “He’s fine. I just don’t want people to think there’s something wrong with him, or that he’s retarded, because he’s not.”

Diane Richard has custody of the child. Cristy Richard has four children outside of her relationship with Matthew, and they have two together.

All of the children are in the custody of separate sets of grandparents, according to Diane. She said she is afraid for Matthew’s welfare, because he’s needed psychiatric help for years, but she also realizes her son pleaded guilty to severely abusing his.

“If he did it,” she said, “he belongs in prison.”

At Richard’s April 20 sentencing hearing, his attorney, Richard Goldsborough, asked the judge to give his client 30 more days of freedom before he reported to prison.

Rainville rejected that request and gave Richard the rest of the week and the weekend. The concern among staffers at the Franklin County State’s Attorney’s Office, however, was that Richard would flee – and he did.

Richard now faces an additional contempt of court charge.

IMO, once a person is found guilty, they shouldn't be given the option of showing up, they should be jailed ASAP.

I hope they get him cornered and it all ends spectacularly in a hail of gunfire that he, tragically, does not survive. That would be nice....

The bunghole didn't give his son the benefit of 30 days. He just went right ahead and did his level best to cripple him for life right then and there. This bunghole got such a light sentence only because his son is showing such positive signs of a complete recovery, I bet. But now that he's shown what a recalcitrant sphincter muscle he is, I hope they give him the maximum sentence and forgo any parole, probation, or leniency, and that the contempt charge comes with a doubling of the sentence.
she heard he and his wife, Cristy, are staying in a tent in a wooded area.
And is there anything positive to say about this piece of offal? She has, what, 5 or six kids, all living with grandparents and she's still with bunghole, living in the woods. What an incredible waste of education and time she is. Maybe a bear will eat her. We can hope.

I'm happy to hear it, but unless the charges earn him more time or in some way make the time he serves harsher, it's not worth much. Things I'd approve of would include, being forced to share a cell with one or more guys (where he wouldn't have before); being forced to work on a chain gang in a cess pool or swamp; being denied any type of furlough (assuming this was a thing they would have done otherwise); being denied an early parole or probation; being denied conjugal visits with his wife (who really ought to be in prison or a psych ward).
