JACKSONVILLE, FL -- A Jacksonville man is facing animal cruelty charges, after police say he let two dogs fight in his yard.
Police were called to Israel Gomez's home on 3502 Fleet Street. Witnesses say two pit bulls were fighting there while Gomez and a group of men looked on. Witnesses also say that Gomez beat one of the dogs with a belt.
When police arrived, the other dog was gone. Gomez admitted that the dogs fought, but said it wasn't for sport and that he wasn't training the dogs to fight.
Officers found blood at the scene. No dog fighting paraphernalia was found at his residence.
