A three-time convicted drunk driver is facing charges he battered his two young children during a drunken rampage over the weekend.
According to a police report describing the incident, the mother of the 5-year-old-boy and 9-year-old girl left her children in the care of their father, Wayne Sainsbury, 44, at his Grant Street apartment Saturday morning.
Sainsbury walked the children to the Regal Liquor & Food Mart on Bay Street, where he purchased toys for the kids and a bottle of alcohol and cranberry juice for himself. En route to the Mayflower Hill Cemetery, Sainsbury reportedly poured out some of the cranberry juice and replaced it with the alcohol, which one of the children described as whiskey.
As the children played in the cemetery, Sainsbury grew angry, yelling at the children and eventually grabbing his son by the hair, then pushing him to the ground. As they walked back to Sainsbury’s apartment, he continued yelling at his children and threw the cranberry juice bottle at his daughter, striking her in the leg. A witness said she also saw Sainsbury grab his son with both hands by the neck while his daughter attempted to stop her father by hitting him on the head.
Shortly after noon, police officers arrived at the yellow house at 29 Grant St. From the driveway, they heard a child from the second floor apartment pleading “don’t hurt me” and “get away from me” followed by a loud slapping sound and more screams and crying.
All that... and his bail is set at 5,000. WOW,glad to know I can smack my kids around in a drunken rage and only get that pitful amount. Add that to the fact he's been convicted of DUI three times... this prick is going to kill someone sooner or later, why keep giving him all these chances?
