Sara Swanson's naked toddler roamed while she exercised

A 3-year-old boy was found roaming a parking lot naked after his mother left him unattended for more than an hour while she went to exercise, police say.

Officers arrested Sara Marie Swanson, 25, a nurse at Tampa General Hospital, on a child neglect charge. She was released on $2,000 bail.

The incident occurred Sunday afternoon. Officers responding to a call spotted the boy and determined where he lived. They "found the door standing open, but nobody was inside the home," an arrest report states. "The living conditions within this apartment were poor, with soiled clothing and trash on the floors of every room."

The child was placed into protective custody, police say.

Swanson is a clinical nurse at Tampa General Hospital, hospital spokesman John Dunn said.

Isn't chasing after little kids and keeping them under control pretty good exercise?? Just put on some music and go!

Selfish bitch all about her time and doesn't care where her 3 yr. old wanders off too and if he could be in danger and gets hurt.

No one is exempt. Apparently even a mother who is a nurse. She needs to join a gym that has a daycare. The one I'm considering joining has just that. Mama burns calories and wee one learns about socializing. Of course I'll be exercising right in front of the big window so I can see him at all times.

What is the deal with naked kids wondering about. Don't people clothe their kids anymore? So sad.

    Be happy little one.

Not that it makes a difference, but I just saw this on the local news and stated that she was at work. Seems she might try to change the story hoping it might sound better? Either way the child is only 3 and needed supervision. When we hear about these cases, why are the houses always dirty?

Because if they were not, we wouldn't hear about them?

I think people who take care of their children...also take care of their homes. People who neglect their children ....neglect their homes as well. Maybe its a personality disorder??

I CAN tell you that whenever I exercise...I know exactly where my kids are ...at all times. And they always have clothes on. Though its hot enough here to run around naked....I just dont feel thats appropriate.

Makes me wonder what kind of "nurse" she is...if she doesnt take care of her home or child.....what kind of care is she providing patients?

Hope the little one is provided with a safe and clean home, and maybe Mommy can get some parenting classes? Surely they are offered where she works.

One is not necessarily an indication of the other. Sometimes you have to pick your battles and prioritize. I regularly neglect my house in order to spend time with the kids and not run myself ragged trying to clean up constantly. (I'm not saying it's filled with piss, shit & trash...but you could classify it as a frggin' disaster much of the time.)

On the opposite side of the coin, my mom left me in the crib for hours on end because she was obsessed with keeping the house clean. Also, many times after coming home when my first husband watched the kids (who was very concerned with the appearance of the house), I'd find a clean house but children who weren't fed and diapers that weren't changed.

However, I'm not saying that there are no personality disorders coursing through my veins...but the way I keep my house is not indicative of it.

I know what you're saying about neglecting home = neglecting kids, but I also think that if the home in question was adequately tidy, they wouldn't report that in the article. Why would they, it wouldn't really add anything to the story of this charming maternal role-model.

BTW I bet there are plenty of homes that are rather neglected, while the children are definitely not. *looks around cluttered sh-thole house*

You don't hear about my home - I mean - those homes on the news because the children are nurtured, clean and healthy so there is no need to involve the authorities (unless "the authorities" are Merry Maids).

    jus sayin

Yea thats all I meant that maybe the 2 go hand in hand in these type of situations. No ones perfect....my house isnt always perfect either. I try to have balance....theres always something to do.

A little each day ..... And ALWAYS tons of laundry!!! (3 kids!)

I understand people dont always have the time or energy....but at least pick up the trash.....article said trash in every room.

I'm not a very good home keeper. Most say, my home looks company ready...ummm, no. I'm like, it could be better. I do my best but frankly I'd rather put my attentions to my boys. Hubs completely agrees. His mother was a clean nut. Everything had to be spic-n-span. He said he often felt like she never played with him or paid attention. I'm so not like that. If my boys get into something I'm in the tail with them 'cause its usually something we were doing together like finger painting. But then, I turn around and my sofa gets painted...lol. It's a toss sometimes but they are far more fun than cleaning dishes!
