A Clovis man was arrested Friday night after flipping his car and running away, abandoning three children who were passengers.
Richard Riley, 34, had just picked up his children -- two 13-year-olds and a 10-year-old -- from a school carnival at Red Bank Elementary School.
Officers said Riley lost control of his car on the 1900 block of Applegate Avenue at around 9 p.m., flipping the Toyota 4-Runner on its side. Police said he ran, leaving the youngsters at the scene.
Witnesses provided a description, and officers saw Riley near Shaw and Temperance avenues. Police said he hopped over fences into backyards, but was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence with injury, hit and run, three counts of child endangerment and for a parole violation.
Two of the children suffered minor cuts and scrapes and were released to family members.
