CLEARWATER - A Clearwater woman suspected of stealing a neighbor’s bicycle fled when police came to investigate, leaving behind a 4-year-old child she was watching, according to an arrest report.

Tammy Lynn Hale, 40, of the 400 block of Jupiter Avenue was arrested Wednesday and faces a charge of child neglect.

Hale “left her door wide open,” and Clearwater police investigating the bike theft saw a child lying on a couch through the open door, according to public safety spokeswoman Elizabeth Watts.

Hale was found hiding in some bushes about a half block away, Watts said.

She was taken to the Pinellas County Jail and is being held in lieu of $2,000 bail.
