Guerin met the girl, who was 16 at the time, through her participation in school activities. He was a former coach of the school's cross country track team.
According to the Sheriff's Office,
Guerin's wife discovered the affair when she read on Guerin's MySpace page that he was falling in love with the girl. Guerin broke off the relationship and the girl told her parents, who reported it to authorities.
The relationship started in September, when Guerin and the girl began communicating by cell phone and through text messages. As they grew closer, the girl confided in Guerin about her ex-boyfriends and other personal issues, according to a sheriff's report.
Sometime before Thanksgiving break,
Guerin told the girl he had strong feelings for her, but was "confused about the birth of his child," the report said. During break, Guerin told the girl
his feelings had surpassed those of a teacher-student relationship.
According to the report, Guerin and the girl
communicated more than 600 times during Christmas break while he was out of the state. He told the girl he wished to "hang out" with her when he returned, the report said.
On Jan. 10, the two met and talked in the parking lot of Dick's Sporting Goods in Haines City.
After the girl left, Guerin called to
tell her she had left something behind. When she arrived back at the parking lot, he said,
"You left me," the report said. The two got back into Guerin's car and kissed.
Later, after the girl returned home, Guerin called, offering to bring her some food.
After eating, the two went into her bedroom and had sex, the sheriff's report said.
Later, Guerin and the girl were talking in school when Guerin received a call from his wife.
He abruptly left and called the girl later that afternoon, the report said. He told her his wife had discovered their relationship by reading his MySpace page and that he could no longer be involved with her.
He told her he had been confused about his feelings for her because of the recent birth of his child, the report said.
Thursday, the girl asked Guerin what she should tell people about their sexual relationship. Guerin said to
"tell them it's not true, say nothing happened" and to "deny it," the report said.
